Acorns Class
Welcome to Acorns Class, our nursery class for children aged 3–4 years. Acorns is a happy, nurturing and exciting place where children are encouraged to explore, play, make friends and develop their confidence as they begin their school journey.
Through a balance of child-led play and carefully planned learning experiences, our Acorns develop important skills across all areas of their learning, including:
- Communication & Language – developing vocabulary, listening, speaking and sharing ideas.
- Early Literacy – enjoying stories, rhymes and songs, developing an interest in books and beginning to explore sounds and letters.
- Early Maths – counting, recognising numbers, sorting, matching, exploring shapes, patterns and simple problem-solving.
- Physical Development – developing coordination, balance, movement and fine-motor skills.
- Personal, Social & Emotional Development – building friendships, sharing, taking turns, managing feelings and becoming more independent.
- Understanding the World – exploring nature, our local community, people, places and the world around us.
- Expressive Arts & Design – exploring creativity through art, music, dance, role play and imaginative play.
At Heaton Park Primary, we want every Acorn to feel safe, valued and excited to learn. We nurture curiosity, independence and confidence, helping each child grow and flourish as they take their first steps in their school journey.
